Additional Information

Join us for journal club with the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM.) We will have an interesting discussion about severe burn injuries and their treatments with Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix (BTM) with Dr. Dattesh Dave and Dr. Theo Pham. Journal clubs provide many benefits for healthcare providers including critical appraisal skills, knowledge updates, research utilization and formulating clinical questions. Journal club also yields opportunities for networking and mentorship, professional skill development, collaboration and communication, and lifelong learning and confidence.

Our first article: "The Application of a Synthetic Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix in Extensive Burn Injury: A Unicenter Experience of 175 Cases."

Our second article: "The Metabolic Impact of Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix in Burn Patients: A Retrospective Analysis of Resting Energy Expenditure and Inflammation."

Both these articles are attached.

We appreciate the collaboration with Dr. Kathleen Romanowski and the Society of Critical Care Medicine and Taylor Leon with PolyNovo.

Discussion Objectives:

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose and clinical application of Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix (BTM) in the management of extensive burn injuries.
  • Compare the metabolic effects, such as resting energy expenditure and inflammation, in burn patients treated with BTM versus traditional treatments.
  • Critically appraise the methodology and outcomes of the two studies to assess the effectiveness and limitations of BTM in burn care.
  • Discuss how findings from these studies could influence current nursing care practices for patients with severe burn injuries.
