Sacramento Chapter Update
Dear SAC AACN Memebers,
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and a great new year thus far. I wanted to take the time to update you on a few things that are going on in our chapter and in our community.
First off, I would like to congratulate Sutter Medical Center Sacramento MICU for receiving their Silver Beacon Award! I know how hard it is to complete the journey and be recognized for all the hard work that is needed in getting this award. They are now joining 4 other units in the Greater Sacramento Area (UC Davis MSICU (Gold), BURN UNIT (Gold), Kaiser Roseville (Silver), and Lodi Memorial (Bronze) and 33 others in the State of California in receiving the Beacon Award. We truely live in a great community and I hope to see more units completing their Beacon Journey in the near future!
In terms of our chapter, we are doing really well overall. As of today, we have over 319 chapter members covering all areas of critical care and progressive care in the Greater Sacramento Region. Over the last 18 months, we have provided 14 chapter events with tremendous amount of membership participation in our review courses, education dinner events, and multidisciplinary symposiums. Our chapter is financial stable as we continue to find ways to drive down costs and provide ample opportunities for members to engage in AACN and SAC-AACN activities. In the next four months, we will be hosting 4 events and we hope you can join us in these events. Please take a look at those on our website and be part of these exciting courses.
For those of you who may be interested in learning more about AACN, we will be hosting the first California Region 19 Leadership Symposium on Wednesday, June 27th at UC Davis Education Building from 730-5pm. This is an exciting opportunity to meet our AACN National Staff Members and network with 15 other chapter leaders while learning the inner workings of being a chapter leader (i.e. President, President Elect, Treasurer..etc.). This is a free event for chapter members and space is limited. We will posting this in the next few weeks as we finalize the details of this event.
In the next few months, our chapter will be looking at succession planning and making our next year's strategic plans. If anyone is interested in joining our board, please feel free to come to our board meeting via Zoom (online process) or at the UC Davis Education Building room 3225A and B from 6pm-9pm. Dinner is provided and your input is always welcomed!
Finally, I would like to thank all the board members for all their hard work over the last 2 years. Even though we are all busy and passionate care providers, we chose to volunteer our time to embrace our roles in this great professional organization. Without their continue dedicated support and hard work, we wouldn't have achieved so much these past 2 years. To put things into perspective, as I engage with nurses from various chapters and organizations, many have informed me that of their respective chapters or organization usually hosts between 2-4 events a year. Our chapter produces an average of 9-10. It is very difficult to produce quality symposiums while keeping the costs down for our members while juggling all the demands of our respective positions. To do this 9-10 times a year, it is truely a labor of love and I am very greatful to all the nurses who have supported me these past 2 years. I thank each and every one of you who comes out to support our chapter in addition to all the people who help out at these events. It is with great honor and a priviledge of being your President these past 2 years and I hope we can continue support our chapter for years to come.
