Black Child Legacy Campaign and Youth Basketball Tournament, August 16th at Christian Brothers High School

Posted 7 days ago by Jodi Coltes Warfield in HELP WANTED

CALL FOR AFTERNOON VOLUNTEERS ON AUGUST 16th!

On Saturday, August 16th one of our partner community groups, the Black Child Legacy Campaign, is holding a youth basketball tournament from 9am to 5pm at Christian Brothers High School.  There will be folks from UCD pediatrics on site doing sports physicals and the BCLC have asked Project ADAM to help teach hands-only CPR to the kids and families at the event.  This is a wonderful opportunity to network with community leaders and provide basic life-saving skills in an underserved area.  Volunteer shifts are available from 8:30am to 1pm and 12:30pm to 5pm.

The Black Child Legacy Campaign is the community-driven movement established by the Steering Committee on Reduction of African American Child Deaths, which is working to reduce deaths of African American children in Sacramento County.

Kings And Queens Rise 2025: Season Eight

Kings and Queens Rise (KQR) co-ed youth sports and mentoring league seeks to prevent violence by providing an opportunity for Sacramento’s young people through inter-community sports activities. The league provides a caring, productive environment with community building, sportsmanship, and resources for health and safety.  KQR was created in response to the tragic killing of Stephon Clark in 2018, to commemorate his life while creating safe spaces for youth. The league brings together youth from eight neighborhoods in Sacramento—Arden Arcade, Del Paso Heights-North Sacramento, Foothill Farms-North Highlands, Fruitridge-Stockton, Marina Vista, Meadowview, Oak Park and Valley Hi—to foster friendships and unity. Black Child Legacy Campaign community partners in each neighborhood provide safe spaces for practices, cheer and season games, and coaches are trained, trusted adults from these partner organizations. Last year, KQR saw 24 teams with nearly 400 players throughout these Sacramento neighborhoods.
